the dark radiance

The world rests in the night. Trees, mountains, fields, and faces are released from the prison of shape and the burden of exposure. Each thing creeps back into its own nature within the shelter of the dark. Darkness is the ancient womb. Night-time is womb-time. Our souls come out to play. The darkness absolves everything; the struggle for identity and impression falls away. We rest in the night.

~ John O’Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom

Meditation: Breathing deeply into your mother-ground, invite the Dark Mother in the form of Na’amah, Queen of the Night, into your space, into your being. You may envision her as a beautiful feminine figure shining with a dark radiance and full of strength, power, and knowledge. Allow her dark radiance and beauty to shine upon and within you, blessing you and drawing forth what needs to come forward. Let all wrong-doing, shame, rage, and self-punishment be transformed in this radiant beauty. Let the ignorance return to wisdom for you and all beings. Give thanks, and pray that womanhood may return to its sacred power.
